An inner-city block in Munich Haidhausen, consisting of heterogeneous listed buildings was planned coherently with mainly commercial purposes. The buildings were comprehensively renovated. In the court a two-storey underground car park was built as well as a new courtyard building and a new residential building in a clearing between two other buildings. The new buildings were discreetly developed to blend in with the historical monuments, blurring the transition between old and new.
An extensive reconstruction or reinvention of original structures (staircases, facades, etc.) that were lost was necessary to adapt to the implementation of new functions. Nonetheless, the impression of a carefully restored original, rather than reconstructed, was achieved through extensive detailing and a handcrafted finish.
