A five-storey block consisting of one hundred flats has been partially dismantled, leaving only the ground floor intact. The single-storey building forms a new centre in the Physicists’ Quarter. Residential functions and utilities were consolidated and defective infrastructure has been revised and improved. The client – the housing corporation of Leinefelde – opened their new office in the building. Adjacently, a renting complex has been realised, including an event space, kitchen and utility rooms. The former stairwells provide daylight for the hallway of the administrative wing. The demolition debris of top stories has been used to level the square in front of the building. Hereby the new area is made step-free without the need of ramps.
