The single-family house from the late 1960s had already been remodelled in the 80s. The client, an art collector, now wanted more space for himself and his collection. The building’s outline has remained the same and the extension is interpreted as an annex and given a distinctive wooden facade. This new construction is designed to complement the existing, spacious 1960s architecture. The details and materials of the existing building have been used in the closed sculptural form of the new building. Also, the ground floor of the extension has been lowered to achieve higher ceilings. Inside, the separation between the new and old is created by furniture. There is a piece of furniture in the annex that also serves as a staircase – connecting the ground floor to the next floor level, which is at table height. With this integration of furniture and circulation a continuous living space is created.
