In the south of Munich the Bavaria Film GmbH is running the well-established Studio complex Filmstadt Geiselgasteig that provides infrastructure for major film and television productions. The building of 'Studio 9' was originally built as a temporary building to house a particular film production and was later adapted for huge television sets, such as 'Wetten das' that seated an audience of up to 1200 guests.

Our task was to transform this interim solution into a forward-looking and modern building. Our strategy consisted of an extensive set of measures by which the studio-structure itself was statically and technically reinforced to comply with fire regulations and a new standard in sustainable technologies was accomplished. The project constitutes the first step of the 'Filmstadt' towards providing CO2-neutral setting for their productions.

An existing secondary building that housed changing rooms and other secondary functions was raised and enlarged. A new foyer building was added alongside one of the studios to serve as a new entrance. It also accommodates the catering area for VIPs and provides space for other in-house functions. The new foyer invites guests in with the extravagant gesture of the wide cantilevering roof. In case of galas or other big events VIPs can directly drive up and enter the studio under this spectacular construction. With its expressive concrete construction, the foyer itself was repeatedly used as a film set and background for television shows like 'Germany’s Next Top Model'.
